The Faith-Leap Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3 during the Gauntlet of Shar is especially challenging. You must travel along an invisible pathway and retrieve the Umbral Gem to complete it. This is a critical quest step you have to follow and complete in the main story.
You can go through this adventure with any character in your party, but we highly recommend bringing Shadowheart with you if she’s in your party. Because this is the Gauntlet of Shar, this has deep connections with the deity the Cleric aligns with and gives you plenty of opportunities to influence her story as work your way closer to the third act of BG3. Here’s how to solve the Faith-Leap Trial in BG3.
How to complete the Faith-Leap Trial in BG3
To solve the Faith-Leap Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3, you must focus on the path between the door to the room and the Ancient Alter. One misstep is all it takes to die accidentally. It’s exceptionally easy to fall down into the shadows below, and this can happen to nearly any character in your party. Here are a handful of good steps to do before you move forward, and properly prepare yourself before taking your initial step forward into this trial.
Steps to Completing Faith-Leap Trial | Description |
---|---|
Split the party | Drag your companion portraits away from each on the side of your screen, and allow them to make independent actions. This way, while you’re working on one character, the others won’t follow them, which lowers the chances of them falling to their deaths. You only need to complete the Faith-Leap Trial with one character. |
Save | You’ll want to save before stepping into the puzzle. If you mess up several times, there’s a good chance you’ll be wasting healing spells, potions, and revives, which might compromise your progress in the Gauntlet of Shar. |
Prepare your spells and gear | Make sure your magically inclined characters. You have the option of using helpful spells to make traversing this area easier, such as Fly, Misty Step, Dimension Door, or a Teleportation Arrow at the ready. |
Learn the path | The primary focus of completing the Faith-Leap Trial is learning the path you must follow. There’s an invisible path you can’t see because of the darkness, and you have to walk this path to reach the end. For anyone who’d rather avoiding using a spell, potion, or special arrow, this is the best way to complete the trial. |
Use characters with high Strength | A good way to bypass certain parts of the Faith-Leap Trial is to use a character with high Strength. They can use the Jump skill at certain points to reach the platform, without having to walk the full path. |
Focus on the Umbral Gem | Your only goal is to reach the end of the Faith-Leap trial and pick up the Umbral Gem. If you scroll up on your map, independent from your party, the Umbral Gem sits on the far side of the room. You only need to reach the end and grab the gem, and then you can progress to the next trail. |
Finding the correct path is one thing, but there are also a few things you need to do before even entering the Trial.
- First, ungroup one of your characters from your party, as you’ll only take one character into the Trial. All you need to do is right-click on your chosen character’s profile on the left side of the screen and select the option “Ungroup.”
- Once you’ve done this, ensure your health bar is full and enter the Faith-Leap Trial.
Faith-Leap Trial Ancient Altar Choice in BG3
The first thing you’ll see upon entering the Faith-Leap Trial is an Ancient Alter. When you interact with it you’re given three choices:
- Spill some of your blood in the bowl
- Meet the statue’s gaze
- Leave
Choose the first option, spilling your blood, which means you take on a Bleeding effect for a short while. Head down the steps to your left and run toward the statue on that left platform to begin solving the Faith-Leap Trial in BG3.
Now, I know it looks like you will fall to your death, but you won’t. As you approach the statue, you receive the Blindness status effect.
How to find the save Faith-Leap Trial path in BG3
Following the correct path from the beginning to the end of the Faith-Leap Trial in BG3 can be exceptionally challenging. We’ll want to start at the left-sided statue and work from there. Step into the darkness from the top left-hand corner of the platform to begin.
You may find this challenge extremely difficult if your brightness settings are low because the platforms are shrouded in darkness. By going into the Lighting settings under Video, you can adjust the settings until you find what works for you.
Once in the darkness, move diagonally towards the middle platform, stopping when you reach the halfway point between the two.
From here, move a few paces horizontally across the room until you’re in line with the edge of the middle platform.
If the next platform isn’t too far, you might be able to jump directly to it. Lae’zel can jump quite far due to her high Strength ability score, especially when using her Githyanki Psionics: Jump skill.
All you need to do now is walk straight to the corner of the middle platform, where you’ll find temporary safety. Next, move from the middle platform to the area at the back of the room, where you’ll see the Umbral Gem in front of a seated statue. You might be able to use the Teleportation Arrow or Misty Step from this point if these options are available to your character to bypass the rest of the Faith-Leap Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3.
While standing at the top right corner of the middle platform, head forward until you’re roughly two-thirds of the way across the expanse and stop. You should be close enough on the invisible path to reach the end, so long as your character has enough to make it.
At the back platform, you can take the Umbral Gem and interact with the disc in front of the statue, finishing the Faith-Leap Trial in Baldur’s Gate 3.
Given this is BG3, a game where almost anything is possible (even polyamorous relationships), there may be another safe path that can take you across the platforms to collect the Umbral Gem. However, this is the best path for the Faith-Leap Trial.
