What does the Spewer do in R.E.P.O.?

The Spewer of R.E.P.O. looks like a levitating tadpole. When it sees you, it starts releasing acid from its mouth, then increases its speed to latch onto your face. Acting like a Facehugger mixed with the Lethal Company‘s Snare Flea, it can latch onto your face for 50 seconds. You will fall down when it leaves your face, resembling the tumble launch (“Q”). Make sure you’re not near any other monsters when the 50-second timer is almost up. The Spewer will fly away, so you have a small breather to look around and hide if another monster appears.
This entity often appears in the Swiftbroom Academy and Headman Manor. The most important thing to note about the Spewer is that it poses no threat to solo players when it latches onto them. Its attack punishes your teammates who want to help take it off your face.
How to counter the Spewer in R.E.P.O.
If playing with teammates, have them avoid going near you because the Spewer projectiles acid from your mouth. It’s also important to note the acid can damage and destroy valuables. To avoid the Spewer, the best thing you can do is to wait out the 50 seconds it resides on your face for. It won’t harm you during this time but can hurt your teammates if they’re within range.
Crouch to avoid its line of sight or hide underneath furniture and wait for it to fly by. It’s relatively easy to avoid its line of sight so long as you’re not walking through doorways with it waiting on the other side. You should avoid simple pathing like walking in a straight line where the Spewer could easily spot you. You can easily outrun it or simply walk around it most of the time (as long as you’re far away enough to remain undetected).
Make the most of the situation if it latches onto you or your teammates by using the acid to damage and kill smaller entities (Apex Predator, Chef, Bangers, Rugrat, and Upscream). But, don’t try to kill something in the middle of the Spewer acid projectile, otherwise you won’t damage your target enough to kill them. Don’t use this tactic against larger monsters like the Robe, Headman, Trudge, or Animal.
Additionally, you can propel yourself upwards when the acid is coming from your face by looking down, lifting you while jumping. This can help you reach high places. It can also help you with threats like avoiding the Clown’s beam or the Upscream’s grab. You can evade the Rugrat’s throwing valuables at you or dodge the Animal’s unpredicatable charge if the Spewer’s projectile appears at the right time.
Can you take the parasite off your face?
You cannot remove the parasite from your face at the Academy Cauldrons, nor will whacking a weapon at your afflicted teammate help knock the Spewer off. While there’s no harm done if you’re playing alone, you can prevent the Spewer from damaging your teammates by hitting it before it attaches onto one of you.
The best way to rid yourself of this face hugger is to have someone use an item or weapon on it before it latches onto someone, otherwise just wait its attack out. Alternatively, you can kill the Spewer directly with one hit of the Baseball hit and two hits with the Frying Pan.
Do not attempt to stun the Spewer with a Traq Gun or use the standard Gun on it. It’s unlikely you’ll be able to hit him since the Spewer does not move in a straight path. There is also no point wasting throwables at it. Save them for enemies with higher health pools and those who can one-shot you.
