How to find and use the Book of Bones in PEAK

The Book of Bones is one of the most intriguing mystical items you can find and use in PEAK, and was introduced with the ROOTS update in November 2025.

This item is single-use only and offers a unique and powerful mechanic that allows you to revive fallen teammates in a different avatar. You do need to have a bit of luck finding the Book of Bones, as it randomly spawns in Ancient Luggage and Ancient Statues scattered throughout the biome.

You can also use this book to unlock a new badge and get exclusive skeleton-themed cosmetics. With that said, here’s where you can find the Book of Bones and how to use it effectively in PEAK.

Where to find the Book of Bones in PEAK

The Book of Bones appears randomly in specific containers: Ancient Luggage and Ancient Statues.

Ancient Luggage is the primary source for the Book of Bones. You have to look out for large suitcases bound by chains with a distinctive red crystal at their center. Opening these can give you the Book of Bones, but only if all teammates are alive during the opening.

Ancient Statues also have a chance to drop the book, but only if every player in the party is alive at the time of interaction. If any teammate is down or dead, mystical rewards won’t appear from these statues.

Since its drop is random, I suggest thoroughly exploring and opening every Ancient Luggage and Statue you find to increase your odds of getting this mystical item.

How to use the Book of Bones in PEAK

The Book of Bones has two functions in PEAK:

• Reviving a dead teammate
• Self-transformation

Once you get this book, you can revive a dead teammate. You have to approach their skeleton form on the ground, then interact with the Book of Bones to revive them. They will then return as a skeleton, but will be vulnerable to fall damage and ordinary hazards.

You may also use it on yourself, even if no teammates need reviving. Doing so will transform you into a skeleton, and this form grants immunity to basic survival needs, such as hunger and poison. However, the significant risk that comes with doing that is dying from even small damage.

Using the Book of Bones also earns you the Applied Esoterica Badge and unlocks the Skeleton Top cosmetic. Just keep in mind you cannot earn this badge solo, and has to be done in multiplayer. If you use the book on yourself to turn yourself into a skeleton, it won’t count toward the badge.
