Avalanche ad points to more Hogwarts Legacy—but it may not be a direct sequel

Something's brewing.

Hogwarts Legacy was a spellbinding success for Avalanche Software, with over 22 million copies sold in its first year. And, all that magic came under a cloud built by J.K. Rowling and her controversies in recent years.

After that success, it’s no surprise one of the long-lasting Hogwarts Legacy fandom’s most frequently asked questions has been if there’s going to be a sequel. While the developers have confirmed a director’s cut edition is currently in the works, it now appears players may be getting their wishes granted: A newly-spotted Avalanche Software job listing (thanks GameRant) suggests a Hogwarts Legacy sequel is on the way.

In this uploaded producer job, one of the key requirements is “experience developing open-world RPG games or action/magical combat games.” So, the dev team is certainly looking for someone to help develop an open-world RPG with magical combat elements—all of which can be used to describe Hogwarts Legacy.

There have been rumors floating around about a Hogwarts Legacy sequel since as far back as late 2023, when famed Hollywood insider MyTimeToShineHello first mentioned the possibility on X (formerly Twitter). There’s been no official confirmation yet from Avalanche or Warner Bros. on follow-up titles, but this listing does go some way to confirming things.

That said, as much as I’d love to believe the team is developing a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, it’s also possible Avalanche is simply branching off a team to work with Rocksteady on the director’s cut; they’re both subsidiaries of Warner Bros.

And, even if a sequel is eventually confirmed for the baying Hogwarts Legacy fans, there’s every chance it may not be quite what they’re after. In March, Warner Bros. boss J.B. Perette admitted at a Morgan Stanley event that, despite the company’s mega success with Hogwarts Legacy and its huge Suicide Squad flunk, the studio wants to move away from AAA releases to focus on more free-to-play live service games.

For the time being, we’ll have to let the spells come together behind the scenes—if this job is for a Hogwarts Legacy sequel, it’ll all be announced in due time.
