Pokémon TCG Pocket lets you snag cards from other players’ packs

Wonder Pick gives you the chance to get a rare card your friend opened.

Pokémon TCG Pocket isn’t just about opening packs. Thanks to a new feature called Wonder Pick, trainers can grab one random card from another player’s pack to add to their collections—without that person losing any cards.

Wonder Pick lets you select one card from a booster pack another trainer has opened, but you can only pick one of five randomly selected cards from the other trainer’s pack—which still grants better odds of pulling a rare card than opening a random pack and hoping for the best.

The feature was showcased to Dot Esports at a recent Pocket event at the start of September, alongside a range of modes the game has at launch. Wonder Pick was one of the more exciting, stand-out features, and trainers will likely enjoy a different way of obtaining cards.

To use Wonder Pick, you must use Wonder Stamina, which recovers over time. If a pack has a rarer card, you need to use more Wonder Stamina to obtain it. You can also use an item called Wonder Hourglass to reduce the time until Wonder Stamina recovers. If your Wonder Stamina meter is full, it’s worth using even if the random packs on offer don’t have anything good to ensure you’re making the most of the mode.

Packs cycle out over time, with new ones replacing them, so checking the screen is also vital to make sure you don’t potentially miss out on a card you need to finish your collection or a super rare card you have no hope of getting unless the RNG gods are on your side.

During a game presentation, Pokémon also told Dot that special kinds of Wonder Picks may be introduced in the future, which could give trainers items, promo cards, or even rarer cards instead of the usual offerings. Details on what these might be, though, weren’t shared.

Wonder Pick offers an alternative way to get rarer cards outside of opening packs. It gives trainers additional options to try and collect cards they want or might be missing, and hopefully, it leads to more features in the future.
