Dynamax Metagross has made its way into Pokémon Go during the Psychic Spectacular 2024 event. You have a chance to challenge Dynamax Beldum at Power Spots throughout your local area, and you’ll want to make sure to get the most from Metagross by teaching it a powerful moveset.
Metagross is already one of the more reliable and useful Pokémon you can add to your team in Pokémon Go. Giving it a Dynamax version gives you another reason to add one to your collection. Still, you might want to reserve it exclusively to battle at Power Spots, as it can be one of the stronger choices during these encounters. Here’s what you need to know about the best moveset to teach Dynamax Metagross in Pokémon Go.
Dynamax Metagross’ best moveset in Pokémon Go
You’ll need to catch Dynamax Beldum before you can get a Dynamax Metagross. It should begin appearing during the Psychic Spectacular 2024 event, which takes place on Sept. 18 to 22 in Pokémon Go, and it should appear at random Power Spots throughout your local area as a tier-three raid. You’ll want to bring some of your best Dynamax Pokémon and enough Max Particles to challenge it. When you do catch and evolve it into a Dynamax Metagross, you want to teach it to use the fast move Bullet Punch and the charged moves Meteor Mash and Earthquake.
Metagross’ strongest fast move, Bullet Punch, is an easy choice. The only other option you have is Zen Headbutt, a lackluster Psychic-type move. Zen Headbutt is an attack that does eight damage and generates two energy per turn, and is an attack that takes three turns to use. Bullet Punch, on the other hand, is a Steel-type move that does six damage, generates 3.5 energy per turn, and only takes two turns. Bullet Punch is a far more powerful attack, making it the obvious choice.
The fast attack does need some consideration, though. While the fast attack is the primary move you use during a Dynamax Battle, it also becomes the Max Move the Pokémon uses when it transforms into its Dynamax form. Bullet Punch becomes a Steel-type Max Move, but Zen Headbutt becomes a Psychic-type Max Move. If you want to give your Dynamax Metagross a Psychic-type Max Move, going with Zen Headbutt is also a choice, but only if you’re trying to base your moveset on the Max Move. If not, always stick with Bullet Punch.
Now, for charged moves, there are several more to consider when you want to flesh out the stronger attacks Dynamax Metagross can use. These are all of the charged moves Dynamax Metagross can unleash in Pokémon Go.
- Earthquake (Ground-type)
- Flash Cannon (Steel-type)
- Meteor Mash (Steel-type)
- Psychic (Psychic-type)
The best ones you can always go with are Earthquake and Meteor Mash. Unfortunately, you need to wait for a Community Day featuring Beldum for Meteor Mash, or you can use an Elite Charged TM. If you don’t have it, the Metagross won’t be as good as it could be. Your second best choice to swap out for Meteor Mash will be Psychic. Otherwise, stick to using Earthquake and Meteor Mash.
Is Dynamax Metagross good in Pokémon Go?
When it comes down to it, Dynamax Metagross is a great Pokémon to add to your collection. You can never go wrong with a standard Metagross on your team, and being able to grab a Dynamax Metagross is great news. I expect only to use this one for Dynamax battles at Power Spots, but it’s still a great addition to an early new feature by Niantic. Don’t be afraid to use this Pokémon elsewhere, such as against other players, against Team Rocket, or in five-star raids.
