New difficulty settings

The Back to the Shroud update revamps the difficulty settings and introduces adjustable difficulty settings to fit different playstyles. There are 30 different settings that affect every game mode in Enshrouded, and there also are a few presets to start you off:

  • Default: Classic Enshrouded experience recommended for the first playthrough.
  • Relaxed: Fewer and less aggressive enemies, more resources, and loot. This preset is great for building and relaxing adventures.
  • Hard: More enemies and they are more aggressive.
  • Survival: Additional survival mechanics, including hunger, dropping your backpack on death, and more aggressive enemies.
  • Custom: Custom setup where you can modify all difficulty settings

You can adjust the difficulty settings after you start the server, although you must restart the server to make any changes.

Mannequins, stands, and shelves

You can display your fancy armor and weapons at your base using new mannequins and weapon stands. It won’t make changing your gear any more difficult, though; there’s an option to equip all the armor from the mannequin, either as armor or vanity, with one click of a button.

Aside from gear, there’s a new quest that guides you to collectibles, like Fossils, scattered around the world. You can collect and display them just like gear using dedicated decorative shelves.

Leveling and upgrading changes

Keen Games made changes to leveling and weapon upgrading. In later regions, leveling up now requires slightly more XP than before. The early stages in the game should remain the same, though.

At the same time, weapons are now more expensive to upgrade, forcing you to carefully consider which weapon to upgrade. The weapon upgrade costs can be tweaked using new difficulty settings.

Combat changes

One of the main focuses in this update regarding combat is parrying and blocking. The update improves responsiveness for parrying and blocking to be more seamless, fixes several glitches and bugs, and allows you to parry multiple enemies as long as the timing is right.

As a part of ongoing class balancing, this update adjusts mage gameplay by improving the use of wands and staffs, survivability, and effectiveness in the early game. This includes increased durability for wands, a wider range for the Light Burst spell, and better healing from the Martyr spell.

These are the main changes in the Back to the Shroud update for Enshrouded. There are many more tweaks and adjustments, including changes to locations like Kindlewastes Hollow Halls to make them less frustrating, so make sure to read the full patch notes if you’re interested in learning more.
