How to fix Enshrouded crashing

Thralls of crashing.

Enshrouded remains one of the standout survival titles on the market, with frequent major updates from the developers. Since it’s currently in early access, technical issues and bugs are to be expected. The latest Thralls of Twilight update has also introduced a few stability problems.

If Enshrouded keeps crashing for you during or after launch, here are a few things you can do to fix it.

How to fix crashing in Enshrouded

Since this is largely an issue with the update, the developers are aware of it and are working on a hotfix to address it. However, if your crashes aren’t related to the new update, you can follow a few workarounds and troubleshooting tips to improve stability.

Switch from DLAA to DLSS

If you’re an NVIDIA user with an RTX GPU, consider switching to one of the DLSS presets from DLAA instead. For some reason, a combination of the new update and GPU drivers may crash DLAA. Additionally, use one of the lower presets of DLSS, like balanced or performance, instead of quality.

Set reflections to balanced

It seems that, along with DLAA breaking, some of the graphics settings are also a bit unstable. The developers have recommended turning down reflections from standard to balanced instead. The general recommendation is to avoid using settings from the “max” preset at the moment.

Verify game files

Since the game is regularly updated, there is a decent chance that something went wrong during the download or installation process. It’s why I recommend verifying the game files just in case.

  • Open Steam and navigate to your library
  • Here, right-click on Enshrouded and select Properties
  • In the Installed Files tab, click on Verify integrity of game files

Update GPU drivers

If you haven’t updated your GPU drivers in a while, now is a good time to do so. NVIDIA’s last few driver releases have been quite buggy, so having the latest ones should improve stability issues. This is another recommendation from the developers.

You can get the latest ones from the links below:

The developers have assured affected users that hotfixes to address these stability concerns are on the way, and we should see improvements in Enshrouded soon. For now, though, the workarounds above should provide you with a playable experience, and I’ll update this guide once a major patch is out, specifically for these crashes.
