While most villagers have just a few quests or prerequisites before you can unlock them, the process for obtaining Jafar is a whole lot more complicated. He’s a tricky guy to find, so here’s how to get Jafar in Disney Dreamlight Valley.

Jafar is by far the most complex character to unlock in Disney Dreamlight Valley since he can only be unlocked by fully completing all story quests in A Rift in Time. This doesn’t include the many friendship quests you pick up along the way, but there’s still a pretty extensive list of tasks you need to finish before he can be recruited to your valley.

Here are all of the quests you need to finish to unlock Jafar.

The official act of unlocking Jafar begins at the end of The Now and Then quest and continues throughout The Lesser Evil quest. There are mild spoilers ahead for both quests, so if you don’t want to know anything about how the story of Eternity Isle ends just yet, don’t read on until you finish the quests mentioned above.

At the end of The Now and Then quest, Jafar ends up trapped in a lamp as peace is restored to the island. You then have to collect a few 2D items in The Lesser Evil and consult with Merlin about them, but he decides he doesn’t know what’s going on and needs Jafar’s help, which means you then need to free him from the lamp.

To free Jafar from the lamp, venture into the Cave of Wonders, place the lamp at the Statue of Time at the very top of the stairs located at the end of the cavern, and use your Royal Hourglass on it. Now that Jafar has been bested by you, he’s not willing to go up against you again and he’s also quite happy to be free, so he’s now part of your village.
