Capcom has had many staff members who have helped the company create amazing titles over the years. One of them is the renowned director Hideaki Itsuno, who has suddenly announced his impending departure from the company.
In a post on his X account on Saturday, Oct. 31, Hideaki Itsuno, who prominently directed Dragon’s Dogma 2 and many Devil May Cry games, announced that he would leave Capcom after 30 years. While Itsuno did not provide a reason for his departure, he thanked fans for their long-term support of the games and characters he has been responsible for. He also claimed that he will be “developing a new game in a new environment” and that he hopes to “create fun, beautiful games that are as memorable as, or even more memorable” than the ones he has shepherded so far.
Hideaki Itsuno was first hired at Capcom’s arcade division, where he went to co-direct games such as Star Gladiator and Rival Schools: United by Fate. He’s also known for his work as the director of many games, including Power Stone, Devil May Cry 3, Devil May Cry 4, Devil May Cry 5, Dragon’s Dogma, and Dragon’s Dogma 2.
Several games he directed are regarded as fan-favorite titles in their respective franchises, and both Dragon’s Dogma games have seen great success. The original, which launched back in 2013, has been regarded as a cult classic, and its recent sequel was met with both critical and commercial success, selling over two million copies within 11 days of its release.
