Exotic class items were introduced to Destiny 2 with The Final Shape expansion. Apart from being some of the strongest Exotics in the game, they can also be incredibly tough to get—but upcoming buffs should make them easier to obtain.
In a This Week in Destiny blog post on July 25, Bungie announced buffs to Exotic class items coming to Destiny 2 in early August. The update increases the chances of drops from Overthrow chests. Every Overthrow chest you open in the Pale Heart increases the odds of getting the drop, and higher-tier chests have higher chances.
This stackable drop chance also applies to Lost Sectors and Co-op missions in the Pale Heart. At the same time, Bungie is reducing the drop rates from regular Pale Heart chests, incentivizing you to play Overthrow to farm Exotic class items.
But wait, there’s more! Even though Bungie nerfed the double Exotic drop glitch from the Dual Destiny mission a month ago, it’s now adding a weekly challenge that grants one additional Exotic class item when completing the mission for the first time during the week. You can complete this challenge once per character to earn three additional class items per week.
Exotic class items are some of the hardest Exotics to get in Destiny 2, mainly because of how many combinations they have. Each class item has eight perks in every column, making it 64 possible combinations. If you want that Spirit of Caliban and Spirit of the Liar roll, you might need a good amount of luck, which can quickly turn into a nightmare grind.
Players already voiced multiple concerns regarding the drop rates, even suggesting Exotic class items should be the first craftable armor in the game. In the blog post, Bungie added it’s “aware of player feedback concerning the desire for these Exotics to come from more activities outside of the Pale Heart,” so maybe we’ll get more farming options in the future.
