Once you’ve reached level 80 in WoW: The War Within, you can then start the Gearing up for Trouble quest by accepting it from Gnawbles, the Snuffling and Ruby Vendor in Gundargaz in the Ringing Deeps. He can be found at the back of the alcove near the Flight path, roughly at coordinates 48 and 35.

If you’re having trouble finding Gnawbles, the quest will show as a blue exclamation mark on your map in Gundargaz. All you need to do is head there. Or, you can use the TomTom addon and input the coordinates; an arrow will appear to lead you to Gnawbles.

To complete the Gearing up for Trouble quest, speak to Speaker Kuldas outside the Inn by the Awakened Cache Reward area, roughly at coordinates 47 and 32, then complete 20 waves in the Awakening the Machine event.

This doesn’t mean you have to complete 20 waves all at once either. You can actually complete 10, leave, then complete another five, leave, and complete the remaining five. As long as you complete a total of 20 waves, it doesn’t matter if you do it all at once or break it down into smaller sections if you can’t progress past a certain point.

Once you’ve completed 20 waves, return to Gnawbles to complete this quest. And, don’t forget to collect your Awakened Cache rewards if you have any.

When you complete the Gearing up for Trouble quest in WoW The War Within, you will receive an Awakened Mechanical Cache. This cache typically contains gear, gold, and other items. However, your first two weekly caches can actually give you a piece of Adventure Gear, and your first four weekly caches can even give you a Restored Coffer Key, which is used to get better rewards in Bountiful Delves.

In my first weekly chest, I got the following items:

  • 159 Gold and 33 Silver
  • 49 Valorstones
  • Five Carved Harbinger Crests
  • One Restored Coffer Key
  • One upgraded Chitinoid Bracers of the Fireflash

The quest rewards you get here in The War Within may differ slightly depending on how many weekly quests you’ve completed in WoW recently. Regardless, you’ll still get gold, gear, and other valuable items. So, if you’re level 80, start and then complete the Gearing up for Trouble quest because the rewards are very worthwhile.
