Making up part of the Time Borrowed objective, the Wooden Figure is a crucial quest item to pick up when you explore Hallowfall in World of Warcraft.
Here’s a guide on how to get the Wooden Figure. Spoiler: It’s part of a series that uses one of the most divisive mechanics in the MMO scene—a time-gated quest.
How to find the Wooden Figure in Wow The War Within
There are a few tasks to complete before you get to The War Within quest that offers the Wooden Figure. First, make sure you’re max level—these quests won’t pop up for you on the map if you haven’t maxed out your character yet.
Then, go to Hallowfall and fly to the location shown below. It’s close to the flight points for Lightspark and The Aegis Wall, so you can get there quickly and easily.
This is the zone where you can pick up Beledar’s Spawn, so keep an eye on your surroundings and check the map if things go dark.
Next, look for the NPC named Maera Ashyld and her pet lynx Magpie to kick off the quests.
She stands near a banner and flaming torch on a hill leading down into a murky swamp with lots of tall flower trees towering over it.
When you speak to her, Maera gives you the quests Runway Scare-a-way and Torching Lights. Both quests are necessary to unlock the Wooden Figure quest, and luckily, they’re pretty easy to complete.
For Runway Scare-a-way, kill 25 Flickering Glowmoths by running them over with your flying mount or attacking them with your usual abilities. These moths are found above the tall green flowers and not at ground level, so hop up with your mount to start.
As the moths move around unpredictably, we found doing a few loops on our flying mount was much quicker than trying to single-target them. It felt somewhat like a Darkmoon Faire minigame, too.
Torching Lights also takes place above ground level, and you can complete it at the same time as Runaway Scare-a-way.
For this, you need to burn 15 patches of moth eggs with Maera’s flamethrower. These disgusting clusters are found nestled in the middle of the green flowers, and each patch contains three to four eggs, meaning the quest can be polished off quickly.
Turn in the two quests to Maera to continue and pick up some gold. Here, she gives you the next objective—but it might not be the Wooden Figure quest.
Maera has a rotating trio of Time quests for the Lost and Found achievement, which show up weekly. They all reward lost trinkets, which count towards the achievement, but only one of the three gets you the Wooden Figure. You need to pick up the quest Time Borrowed.
The quests Time Lost and Time Found do not give the Wooden Figure as a reward, but they’re incredibly similar at a glance and task you with tracking down six mementos each time by killing mobs and digging in piles of trash, just like Time Borrowed.
As noted, this is a time-gated series of quests, so if Time Borrowed doesn’t show up for you, come back the following week and speak to Maera again. If you’re hunting for the Lost and Found achievement, you need to complete all three of the Time quests, so mark the location on your map.
Where to turn in the Wooden Figure in WoW the War Within
Picking up any Lost and Found trinkets allows you to access individual quests, working toward the achievement.
To turn in the Wooden Figure, go to Dunelle’s Kindness in the east of Hallowfall and find an NPC named Barahl Lynflame. He can be found inside the open building with several lynxes milling about, leaning against the doorframe, just out of sight from outside.
The Wooden Figure does not automatically start a quest when you put it in your inventory. You need to find Barahl first to trigger the quest and grab your achievement progress.
Every Lost and Found trinket needs to be turned in to a different NPC, so you won’t be able to turn others in to Barahl. They’re all based in Hallowfall, though, so there won’t be too much running around involved if you’re hoping to cross Lost and Found off your list.
