How to upgrade Ultimate weapons in The First Descendant

Make them truly Ultimate.

Ultimate weapons are the strongest weapons in The First Descendant. Almost every build in the game involves a specific Ultimate weapon to take advantage of the Reactor mounting, so you might as well upgrade them to make the most out of your Descendants.

There are many ways to improve your Ultimate weapons in The First Descendant, including leveling them up and increasing Weapon Proficiency. However, something only available for Ultimate weapons is enhancing their Unique Ability.

You can upgrade the Ultimate weapon’s Unique Ability at any Workbench in The First Descendant. Interact with the Workbench and select Enhance Unique Ability. To upgrade the Unique Ability, you need another copy of the weapon.

The effects of the enhancement depend on the weapon. For example, Sigvore’s Proof launcher from the pre-season battle pass gets more rounds per magazine and more stacks of Burn for its Sticky Bombs. Unique Ability enhancement doesn’t affect the weapon’s base stats. You must still invest time and resources in leveling it up and enhancing installed Modules.

You can upgrade each Ultimate weapon four times, as indicated by four squares under its stats. This means if you want to max out your Thunder Cage, you need to farm four more copies of the weapon.

Is upgrading Ultimate weapons worth it in The First Descendant?

Farming for four additional copies of an Ultimate weapon can be grindy in The First Descendant, especially if it’s a late-game weapon, like Enduring Legacy. Enhancing the Unique Ability gives your weapon a nice power boost, but it shouldn’t be a priority unless you have everything else maxed out.

I recommend focusing on farming the right Modules, Reactors, or the Weapon Proficiency XP to improve your builds. The only exceptions are weapons you can easily obtain through regular missions (like Thunder Cage or Fallen Hope) in the early game.
