When it comes to fine tuning a Pokémon choice for your team in Pokémon Go, it all comes down to your options for their moveset and the attacks they learn. Skeledirge just received some special treatment with updated attacks following its Community Day event.
Community Days are a great way for players to increase their chances of catching a Shiny version, and the featured Pokémon can learn an exclusive move. The move is typically an upgrade from their previous moveset, and can prove to be a powerful asset that changes how you use them on your teams. For Fuecoco’s Community Day, Skeledirge received some fantastic choices that make it a must-have for many players. We’ll be breaking down the best moveset you can give Skeledirge in Pokémon Go and what makes it a good choice for your team.
Skeledirge’s best moveset in Pokémon Go

Skeledirge is a Fire and Ghost-type Pokémon. It’s weak when hit by Dark, Ghost, Ground, Rock, and Water-type moves, but it’s resistant against Bug, Fairy, Fighting, Fire, Grass, Ice, Normal, Poison, and Steel-type attacks. Although its lowest stat is defense, it has a robust amount of health that makes it difficult to take down and a powerful attack that gives it plenty of damage potential against any opponent. The best moveset you can teach Skeledirge is the fast move Incinerate and the charged moves Shadow Ball and Torch Song.
Attack | Attack Type | Damage Type | Damage | Energy |
---|---|---|---|---|
Incinerate | Fast move | Fire type | 20 | 4 |
Shadow Ball | Charged move | Ghost type | 100 | 55 |
Torch Song | Charged move | Fire type | 70 | 45 |
For the fast move, Incinerate is a fantastic choice for Skeledirge as it’s a powerful Fire-type attack. It does 20 damage and gives four energy per turn, but it’s an attack that takes five turns to use. Despite how long it takes to use, the four energy per turn makes it a must-have. The other choice is Bite, a Dark-type move that does four damage and gives two energy per turn. Bite only takes a turn to activate, putting slightly below Incinerate, but it provides half the amount of energy. You need the energy from Incinerate to use Skeledirge’s stronger charged moves, so you can toss out Bite as a possible attack.
Next, we have Skeledirge’s most important attacks, and these are the charged moves. There are several you could pick from, as it already had a great moveset before Fuecoco’s Community Day, and the exclusive moves it can learn only make it more powerful. These are all the charged moves Skeledirge can use in Pokémon Go.
- Blast Burn – Fire type
- Crunch – Dark type
- Disarming Voice – Fairy type
- Flamethrower – Fire type
- Shadow Ball – Ghost type
- Torch Song – Fire type
Of these six options, Shadow Ball and Torch Song are the strongest combination you can give to Skeledirge in Pokémon Go. For overall raw damage, it would be Blast Burn and Shadow Ball, but each time you use Torch Song, you’re increasing Skeledirge’s overall damage by a rank, even if it misses. The increased damage you do with Torch Song is a large boon for Shadow Ball, and Incinerate also becomes stronger.
Blast Burn is a fantastic choice, hands down. It’s a considerable upgrade from Disarming Voice, despite it giving Skeledirge a large coverage with attacks and things it can counter. Having a Skeledirge that still knows Disarming Voice is a good idea, especially if you’re worried about facing off against Dragon-types.
Because of the many ways you can build up Skeledirge, having one that knows Shadow Ball with Disarming Voice, another that knows Blast Burn, and then having one that knows Torch Song is a good idea, if you have the space. It is demanding to have this many types of the same Pokémon, but if you can divide up your roster like this, it’s a great idea. However, the top choice you want to make sure you have by the end of Fuecoco’s Community Day is a Skeledirge that knows Shadow Ball and Torch Song.
Is Skeledirge good in Pokémon Go?
Skeledirge is an excellent choice to add to your Pokémon Go roster if you participate in the Great and Ultra Leagues. I’d recommend having one for each category, but you might get more use out of it from the Ultra League, as you can increase its stats as much as possible before entering the Master League.
Even before the moveset change, Skeledirge was a great Pokémon as it has several resistances and a solid moveset that covers several unique attack types. With the addition of Blast Burn and Torch Song, its value goes up even more, especially if you optimize on Shadow Ball and Torch Song. The problem with it now is you’ll have to watch out for any Dragon-types you face off against, meaning you’ll want to add a Fairy-type ‘mon or one that can use Fairy-type attacks to your team. This will be Skeledirge’s largest weakness in Pokémon Go.
