Overwatch 2’s new support hero is ready to hit the battlefield when the game’s 12th season kicks off next week, Blizzard confirmed today in a new trailer and blog.
The 11th support hero to join the OW2 roster has a truly fun kit that players got a first-hand look at during her test weekend just a few weeks ago. Now, she’s ready to launch in season 12, called New Frontiers.
There are two new Mythics this season, with one skin and one weapon joining the game. Mythic Anubis Reaper is joined by a weapon skin for Ana, Midnight Sun. Players will also be able to purchase past seasons’ Mythics with Mythic Prisms.
In addition, season 12 marks the arrival of Clash, a new mode, on repurposed maps Temple of Anubis and Hanaoka. Clash features multiple objective capture points, along with “dynamic spawns” and “streamlined map routes.”
This season’s battle pass features a theme around “ancient treasures and cosmic wonders,” and includes five Legendary skins (Bast Doomfist, Oni Ana, Thoth Illari, Dorothy Ashe, and Captain Sigma) on top of the standard 80 Mythic Prisms, 20 percent XP boost, and 500 Credits.
Balance-wise, Blizzard said it’s bringing health reduction to several damage and support heroes who have become “favorite go-to picks” because of how mobile they are, along with “notable updates” for Lifeweaver’s Petal Platform, Healing Blossom, and Rejuvenating Dash. Full patch notes for the update will be available sometime next week.
Additionally, Blizzard says to expect competitive updates in the middle of the year, including a rank reset, improvements to the “avoid as teammate” feature, and changes to Group Respawn in Quick Play. System designer Gavin Winter will post more information later this week in a Director’s Take blog.
Overwatch 2’s season 12, New Frontiers, begins next week on Aug. 20.
