Are you ready for pirates?

Fortnite’s season eight is finally coming this Thursday. That’s when players will probably see the next update instead of a last season seven update on Tuesday or Wednesday as usual.

The hype is building up. Developer Epic Games has been revealing teaser images with riddles that hint at the season eight’s theme, changes are happening to areas like Wailing Woods, and developers have already spilled the beans to players about some changes that are coming.

Confirmations about season eight changes might only come in the next few days, but we had a few confirmations thanks to an Ask Me Anything session Fortnite developers held on Reddit this weekend.

While we wait for more, here’s what we know so far about what’s coming or what might come to Fortnite this Thursday in season eight.

A pirate-themed season

All teasers revealed so far hint at pirates in the Fortnite island. The first teaser image mentioned treasures, “X marks the spot,” and showed a pirate hook. The second teaser image mentioned something was coming in the waves, shivering, and showed a huge snake-like creature in it.

We have no confirmations on this yet, but it’s very likely that season eight’s theme will be pirates and gigantic sea creatures in and aroun the Fortnite island. We have no idea how players could interact with these creatures or which kind of items could come to give the game a pirate vibe, but we should all be ready for more loot and different adventures.

X-4 Stormwing Planes will be gone

Epic Games has confirmed the removal of the X-4 Stormwing Planes. The company revealed in a Reddit AMA that it will remove planes as soon as season eight begins.

These planes have been the main controversy in the game since their release. They could burst through structures without taking heavy damage, players could survive really long while flying on them without being taken down, and players could glide into any fight after hopping off their planes. Even after Epic nerfed X-4 Stormwings to the ground, making them unable to break through structures, the company still felt it would be better to remove planes entirely in season eight.

Wrapping up Season Seven

A few events are still waiting for closure in season seven. Players are still experiencing a few earthquakes across the island, and they haven’t really developed into anything big. No big map changes or additions came from them yet, so we might see the result of all of them when season eight begins.

The dragon eggs players saw under the Ice Castle in Polar Peak have disappeared a few weeks ago and are nowhere to be found. No creatures came from them and no changes happened to the game since. Based on the second image teaser, we could even say they’re not dragon eggs, but serpent eggs that hatched and released creatures that are ready to dominate the Fortnite island in season eight.

We still need to wait a few more days to figure it out.

A free Battle Pass

Players who have completed 13 of the 20 Overtime challenges in season seven will start season eight with the premium Battle Pass for free. They’ll have instant access to two tier-one skins and will unlock premium weekly challenges all season long just like any player who pays for the premium Battle Pass.

Players who earned the Battle Pass should see it as soon as season eight begins.
