How to farm Tier 5 gear in Destiny 2’s Solstice 2025 event

Back to Caldera mines.

Solstice is the first event after the launch of The Edge of Fate expansion in Destiny 2. This year’s version shakes things up when it comes to how we play the event and the loot we’re getting to fit the new gear tiering system.

Here’s everything you need to know about the Solstice in Destiny 2 in 2025, including all the loot and how to get the Tier 5 versions of it.

The 2025 Solstice is shorter than usual, running for two weeks from Aug. 5 until Aug. 19. On the upside, the process of getting weapons and armor is much more straightforward than before. Everything is available on the event page in the Portal, including the Solstice Forge to unlock and kindle armor.

Instead of the Bonfire Bash activity this year, you can get Solstice gear by playing Portal activities that have a Distorted Solstice Engram as a bonus reward. The activities rotate daily, so keep an eye out for which activities feature Solsitce rewards to maximize loot. The fastest activities to farm are Solo Ops, like Caldera. It takes around five to six minutes to complete, as opposed to longer Fireteam Ops missions.

a rank

To get the A rank, kill enough adds (the bar progress should reach the bonus section) and complete the mission within the time limit. In Solo Ops, you must also complete the bonus objective.

The loot in Solstice 2025 is beyond generous. While the reward quality still depends on your Power level and Guardian Rank, the drops are one Tier above the normal Portal activities. At 300-320 Power, Solstice gear consistently drops at Tier 4, with occasional (but quite rare) Tier 5 drops. Above 400 Power, the rewards drop at Tier 5, as long as you hit the A rank in a given activity.

There are three weapons in Solstice 2025: Yeartide Apex Solar submachine gun, Festival Flight Strand Area-Denial grenade launcher, and the Fortunate Star Void bow. All these weapons are a part of the Distorted Solstice Engram’s loot pool from the get-go.

The Tier 5 versions of these weapons are, undeniably, among the most desired rewards in this event, but there are also Holofoil versions of these weapons. Holofoils come with a unique ornament that looks like a beach with an animated wave.

Armor

Initially, armor isn’t a part of the Distorted Solstice Engram loot pool at the start. To unlock armor, complete activities and earn Solstice Alloy. In the Solstice Forge, you can unlock every piece of armor for 100 Solstice Alloy, and then unlock the signature Solstice glow for an additional 50 Solstice Alloy.

After you unlock an armor piece, it’ll be added to the loot pool. This also means that if you want to farm god rolls for event weapons, like Yeartide Apex and Festival Flight, avoid unlocking armor straight away.
