Destiny 2 Renegades release date and countdown

Not too long from now, in a galaxy nearby...

Renegades is the second expansion in Destiny 2‘s The Fate Saga that started with The Edge of Fate. Apart from continuing where we left off on Kepler, Renegades is also the first licensed collaboration with Lucasfilm Games to deliver a Destiny story, which is also an homage to Star Wars.

Destiny 2 Renegades launches with the weekly reset on Dec. 2, 2025. The servers will go offline at 9:55am PT and are expected to come back up at 11am CT. This makes for a short downtime, but expect potential delays, long queue times, and beloved Cat errors as a core part of the expansion launch experience.

Here’s exactly how much time is left until Renegades is out:

To stay informed on any server issues and potential delays, keep an eye on the Destiny Server and Update Status page on the Bungie website as well as the Bungie Help X (formerly Twitter) account.

Pre-load for Renegades will become available on all platforms shortly after the servers go offline on the day of the release. Unfortunately, this means you won’t be able to download the game well in advance, and considering the update size, you might not be able to jump in as soon as the servers come online.

Here are the storage requirements for Destiny 2 Renegades, including the final game size and storage space required for installation:

All new content in Destiny 2 Renegades

Renegades may not have as many systemic changes as The Edge of Fate, but there’s a lot more coming in the content department, with a new core activity as well as locations, weapons, and characters inspired by the Star Wars universe.

Here’s everything you can expect in Destiny 2 with the Renegades expansion:

  • New campaign: Renegades features a story that continues your fight against fate, as you infiltrate a criminal underworld to save Drifter and stop Barant Imperium. Barant Imperium is a Cabal faction that resembles the Empire, with white Stormtrooper-esque armor, AT-ST walkers, and a powerful new weapon. The Drifter believes they are connected with the Nine, and it’s your job to stop them by climbing through the underworld.
  • Tharsis Outpost: It wouldn’t be a Star Wars expansion without a cantina. Tharsis Outpost is a new social hub that also features representatives of criminal syndicates, including Pikers (Eliksni anarchists), Totality Division (Cabal Barant Imperium sub-division), and Tharsis Reformation (Vex in clothes).
  • Lawless Frontier activity: Lawless Frontier activity sounds similar to a Helldivers experience. You pick a job to fight a syndicate on one of the three planets; every run may have different objectives, times of day, and side objectives. You hit your targets, call in the extraction, and get out. There’s also an optional Invasion feature that allows other players to invade your job for greater rewards.
  • Renegade abilities: To help you get the job done, there are nine Renegade abilities in Lawless Frontier that you can unlock and upgrade by pledging yourself to the syndicates. These work on top of your subclass and can range from calling in a Barant Imperium walker to bombing enemies with an airstrike.
  • New dungeon: Renegades features a new dungeon. We don’t know much about it yet, but we’re joining forces with Aunor Mahal to hunt acolytes of Dredgen Bael, and the job also involves forging our own Praxic Blade—Destiny‘s version of the lightsaber.
  • Star Wars-themed weapons: Multiple weapons in Renegades are inspired by the Star Wars universe, including a new blaster archetype, with weapons resembling the DL-44, Mandalorian’s rifle, and Boba Fett’s rifle. Blasters work similarly to weapons from games like Star Wars: Battlefront, with a heat system instead of regular ammo.
  • Weekly Ritual: Renegades features multiple improvements to the overall core experience. This includes the new Vanguard Order system for more rewards, more weekly Bonus Engrams, weekly Conquest rewards, and weekly rewards for legacy raids and dungeons.
  • Vault space: Bungie confirmed there will also be more vault space coming with Renegades, alongside improved sorting and filtering.

There’s no new destination in Renegades. Instead, we’ll see new locations (that have a more Star Wars feel to them) on familiar planets. Mars with the Tharsis Outpost is our Tatooine, Venus has areas themed around Dagobah/Endor, and Europa features encampments you would find on Hoth. There are also new characters, including Aunor Mahal, a member of the Praxic Order, which is Destiny‘s version of the Jedi Order.

With The Edge of Fate, there has been a lot of feedback from players regarding the Power grind, and Renegades plans to address some of that on top of ongoing updates to Destiny 2. There will be more improvements in the Shadow & Order update later in the expansion, including the ability to enhance Legendary weapon tiers.
