Immortals is trying out players for its Overwatch team

Since it was founded last October, Immortals has rapidly expanded its esports teams. Now, it’s casting its eye towards Overwatch.

Initially showing interest in League of Legends, Immortals’ roster placed first in the Spring Split regular season. The organization has since picked up the former Tempo Storm Counter-Strike: Global Offensive roster on Jun. 1, with the team enjoying international success, including victories at CEVO Gfinity Pro-League Season 9 and DreamHack Summer.

Playing under the organization’s banner in the qualifiers for ELEAGUE’s Overwatch Open this weekend, the roster contains members from the Overwatch teams WEUNITED and ohno. Immortals made it clear, however, that they are yet to sign the squad officially and that the team competing in the ELEAGUE qualifiers is being trialled.

“The current Overwatch roster playing under our banner in the ELEAGUE qualifier is the product of an ongoing tryout process,” the Facebook statement says, also seeming to suggest that it may not even retain the current line-up throughout said process. “The roster is not yet finalized and will be announced when complete. Stay patient!”

Overwatch has reached a player base of over 10 million active players just three months after being released, leading several top-ranking esports organizations to acquire squads in the title. With the inaugural season of ELEAGUE on the horizon, and the Overwatch World Cup at BlizzCon, the title looks to become one of the hottest in the esports space.
