Another new set dropping into Magic: The Gathering Arena has bugged the system, causing dropped matches in Limited events and other modes during the digital release of Bloomburrow.
The digital launch of Bloomburrow on July 30 through MTG Arena was going smoothly until around 1pm CT, when players began making reports of dropped matches. As with most new sets dropping into the digital client, players were able to access the new cards and start playing before the update was finalized. Dropped matches were occurring in Limited Draft events, leaving players frustrated and out almost $10 unless WotC refunds the Draft tokens.
At time of writing, the MTG Arena status says “we are investigating reports of network errors and general unresponsiveness. Maintenance is on-going.”
In response to a massive number of complaints, WotC disabled MTG Arena, causing a loss in connection for players who were logged in and preventing players from logging in who weren’t already in the client.
The client servers were promptly restarted several minutes later, giving players full access to MTG Arena. Several content creators, like AliEldrazi, were brave enough to start playing matches again without any further disruptions, despite the Arena status saying issues were still being investigated. I highly recommend playing in Constructed or crafting decks through the deck builder until all issues have been officially resolved. It’s unknown at time of writing if, and how, WotC plans to compensate players for incomplete Drafts.
If you have or are still experiencing issues, I recommend restarting the client and contacting WotC customer service to submit a ticket. This is especially true if you notice missing cards from Drafts, like Yoman5.
Update July 30 at 7:45pm CT: WotC identified and has responded to the Draft issues on X/Twitter today. “Due to an issues affecting sideboarding between matches, we have temporarily disabled Traditional (best-of-three) Draft and Sealed events. Players who are currently participating in these events will be able to resume their matches once the bug is fixed. We apologize for the inconvenience as we work to resolve this issue.”
