The Witchwood Decklist Compilation: Week 2

This article is over 6 years old and may contain outdated information

We are now in the second week of The Witchwood expansion, and the meta is finally settling down with decklists being thoroughly refined. We will also get access to the Monster Hunt PVE mode this week!

Let’s take a look at some of the new decks that have cropped up and are viable for grinding to your desired ranks in the last days of the season.

OTK Priest

While there are versions that rely on Lesser Diamond Spellstone to be upgraded to resurrect Radiant Elemental and Prophet Velen, the normal Alexstrasza into Mind Blast combo is much more consistent. The deck is designed to combat aggro, and you won’t do too well against decks that run a lot of healing of armor gain.

With most meta decks not running any form of life gain, you can combo them down with burst damage after playing an offensive Alexstrasza. The deck functions as a normal Control Priest deck and it contains Dusbreaker and Wild Pyromancer for effectively dealing with any deck that tries to flood the board.

You can use your Shadow Visions to look for extra Mind Blasts to play after Alexstrasza. Getting a third Mind Blast allows you to kill your opponent right after setting their HP to 15. Alternatively, you can horde a bunch of cheap spells and slowly chip away at your opponent with Shadowreaper Anduin after exhausting them of all resources.

Quest Rogue

Quest Rogue punishes every slow deck out there, especially Spiteful decks that are becoming quite popular. With access to Vicious Scalehide, the deck has a lot of healing potential too right now – something the deck has lacked because it was too hard to slot in any cheap form of healing knowing how the deck is built. With Scalehide, you can heal for five each time you attack, and with multiple bounce effects at your disposal, you can burst to heal back while also trading off minions.

Despite Gadgetzan Ferryman moving out of Standard, the deck has been doing quite well thanks to Sonya Shadowdancer allowing you to fill up your quest counter quite easily. Glacial Shard is a very powerful card in the deck that can block a lot of incoming damage.

Igneous Elemental makes things easier as you can use the Flame Elementals to fill up your quest condition quickly and you only need to bounce once Flame Elemental to complete your quest, allowing you to save your bounce effects in slower matchups for your Charge minions.

Taunt Druid

Taunt Druid broke into the meta out of nowhere after not seeing much high-level play in the first few days of the expansion. The deck is built around Hadronox and Witching Hour. You play a bunch of taunts and follow up with Hadronox and Naturalize to refill your board with Taunts.

If your opponent clears your board, you still have Witching Hour and Carnivorous Cube at your disposal to keep refilling your board. There are very few counters to the deck, and if you get an early ramp and on-curve plays, it’s almost impossible to lose.

The deck is quite fun and consistent enough despite having slow combos. With Dirty Rat out of the picture in Standard to mess things up for you, it is a deck you should be trying out!
