After a tumultuous ten days of play, it was Team Secret who emerged victorious in Dota 2‘s Shanghai Major.
The European side defeated Team Liquid in the upper bracket final, before beating them again 3-1 in the grand final to win the $1.11 million first prize.
After coming second in their group to Korean surprise package MVP Phoenix, Secret defeated Frankfurt Major winners OG and The International 2015 champions Evil Geniuses on their way to the final.
Liquid had also sailed through the upper bracket, taking out Alliance and MVP Phoenix.
In a series that lasted just under three hours, Secret and Liquid split the first two games before Secret took over in game three. The fourth and decisive game was an emphatic and championship-worthy performance, as Secret won in around 25 minutes.
MVP Phoenix were rewarded for their strength with a fourth place finish, while compLexity and Fnatic also performed well above expectations to make the top six.
On the other side of the scale, the Chinese sides surprised everyone with their lacklustre performance. In front of their home fans the region failed to get a team into the top eight for the first time in a Valve major.
