How to level Herbalism quickly in WoW The War Within

Having maxed out professions in World of Warcraft can help you with everything from making gold to collecting mounts, but it can be tricky to know where to start leveling with Herbalism.

Herbalism is one of the gathering professions in World of Warcraft (the others being Mining and Skinning), and it’s perfect for both PvE players and gold-makers.

Head to Dornogal. If you’ve never picked a herb in TWW’s zones, you can learn Khaz Algar Herbalism from Akdan, the profession trainer, at the location below.

It’s possible to learn the expansion-specific profession by just picking a herb, but learning it from the trainer means you can pick up handy supplies for companion professions like Alchemy at the same time, along with profession quests that reward Knowledge resource items.

Herbalism goes from level one to level 100, and there are various kinds of herbs to pick up around the world. Some of them only reward profession levels up to a certain point and others have side effects to watch out for. Herbs in The War Within are as follows.

HerbDescriptionLocation
Arathor’s SpearPointy pink and orange flower with green leaves.Outdoors in open spaces across the Isle of Dorn, Hallowfall, and The Ringing Deeps.
Blessing BlossomPink bell-shaped flower with green leaves. On cliffs and tall areas, in Isle of Dorn, Hallowfall, and The Ringing Deeps.
LuredropBlue and purple alien-like flowers.Uncommon, can be found in caves and underground.
MycobloomOrange, beige, and blue, looks like fans made of mushrooms.Found in every TWW zone.
OrbinidBrown stem, purple leaves, and a pink orb in the center.Somewhat rare, can find them most frequently in Azj-Kahet.

On top of this, there are several node types to be mindful of. These are:

  • Altered: Discolored herbs that inflict a poison debuff, also providing Writhing Samples.
  • Camouflaged: Invisible herbs you will only see with a vial of Truesight.
  • Crystallized: Glowing, golden herbs that give you a three percent secondary stat boost for two minutes and cure the poison debuff from Altered herbs. Additionally provides Crystalline Powder.
  • Irradiated: Neon herbs with a ring around them that explode with a knock back. Abilities like Blink can help you bypass this and avoid fall damage, similar to the Windswept herbs from Dragonflight. Provides Leyline Residue.
  • Lush: Larger versions of standard herbs that provide more resources.
  • Sporefused: Glowing green herbs that temporarily give you visions and provide Viridescent Spores.

As your Herbalism level goes up, keep an eye out for special nodes like Irradiated and Lush herbs to make sure you’re consistently gaining points.

How to level up Khaz Algar Herbalism in WoW The War Within

Start off in the Isle of Dorn. There’s no level requirement for maxing out your Herbalism profession—you could do it as a fresh level 70 if desired—but we’d suggest being at least level 73 so you can farm in The Ringing Deeps without worrying about mobs too much.

The Isle of Dorn has plenty of herb nodes dotted around the map, but we found the route below to be the most plentiful for standard nodes and special ones.

Taking a few laps around this route will bring your Herbalism level up significantly. If you’re on a high-population server, widen the route somewhat and make sure you’re picking up the cliff areas around Dornogal.

When you get to level 25 in the profession line, you can pick a specialization. We opted for Botany, as this allows you to pick herbs while on a mount.

Once you reach level 30 in Herbalism, you stop earning points from picking Mycobloom. When you get to 60, you stop earning from regular iterations of all the standard herbs, meaning the next task is to go somewhere with more special nodes.

At level 80, Camouflaged herbs stop giving skill points, so utilize your Truesight vials from levels 60 to 80 to make the most out of them.

Head to The Ringing Deeps next. This zone has plenty of caves, cliffs, and beams, meaning you’re more likely to come across special Blessing Blossoms, Luredrops, and Orbinids.

There isn’t a specified route to take in The Ringing Deeps to get from level 60 to level 100. Follow the edge of the zone around—making sure to dip into caves and hidden areas—and add variation to your flight path to ensure you don’t miss any nodes.

The caves in The Ringing Deeps are particularly abundant for Herbalism leveling, but they do also contain a fair few mobs, which is why it’s trickier to max out the profession on a new level 70.

Farming special herbs in The Ringing Deeps will help cap off your profession experience quickly.

Being mindful of which herbs you chase down and where you look can help to get you from level one to level 100 quickly—the process took us a couple of hours overall and we found plenty of gold, treasure, and some quest items, too.
