If you like exploring every nook and cranny of a game’s region, you may want to get your hands on the Plasma Thrusters in The Outer Worlds 2 as soon as possible. Fortunately, you can acquire it immediately after landing on the first planet in the game, Eden.
However, since it’s not tied to the main quest, you may go hours without ever finding it, or worse, may never get your hands on it. As such, in this guide, we explain how to get Plasma Thrusters in The Outer Worlds 2.

How to acquire Plasma Thrusters in The Outer Worlds 2

You can find the Plasma Thrusters in the Spire Grove region of Eden in The Outer Worlds 2. But before you head there, we recommend picking up the “Perilous Journey to the Grove” quest from an NPC named Huell Chaudry in Fairfield. He will ask you to look for his business associate, Jackson Plum, who may have acquired schematics of a mysterious Protectorate technology. Spoiler alert—it’s for the Plasma Thrusters.
Spire Grove is an area located at the top of a mountain, overlooking Fairfield. Head towards the corn field beyond the Sheriff’s place, where you find the camouflage bucket helmet, and you will spot Spire Grove’s board in the distance.

Sadly, the elevator to Spire Grove is out of commission, though you can fix it if you have invested three points in the Engineer Skill. Otherwise, we recommend climbing the platforms on the left. It should only take a minute to reach the summit.
Once you’re there, head towards the center, and you will hear a couple of NPCs chatting at the top of a building. In an unsurprising turn of events, one of them will fall and splash in front of you like a piñata. That’s Jackson Plum for you in the flesh (pun intended). Grab the schematics from his corpse and the P.A.L.E. gadget, the Plasma Thrusters.

Now, you can return to Chaudry to complete the “Perilous Journey to the Grove” quest, but we recommend sticking around and talking to the NPCs stationed above, as they will have another side quest for you named “A Final Death for Gravity.”
It’s a great way to earn some quick XP and test the Plasma Thrusters. The entire quest is a series of platforming puzzles designed to test this new gadget. It’s self-explanatory—just make your way to the top of the building and find a drive overloader to lower the platform and rescue those NPCs.
And that’s pretty much it! While talking to Chaudry, you may choose not to reveal any information about the Plasma Thrusters and keep it all for yourself. There are a few other options to explore that we won’t spoil for you.
Are the Plasma Thrusters any good in The Outer Worlds 2?

Let’s address the elephant in the room. Are the Plasma Thrusters worth all the trouble? That depends on what you expect from it. Simply put, it won’t let you hover across The Outer Worlds 2’s map or easily reach super high places. It just adds one extra jump option to your character’s ability and lets you hover for a few seconds.
That said, it’s still an effective infiltration tool that should allow you to enter several heavily guarded outposts from previously inaccessible areas. For instance, you can only reach the island of the Vox Relay Station from the shore alongside Westport if you use the Plasma Thrusters. Likewise, there’s a secret pathway to the Automech Repair Center underneath a cave, which you can climb onto with the aid of this gadget.
