Fairfield, the first major town you visit in The Outer Worlds 2, is brimming with intriguing NPCs, side quests, and secrets—some of which are easy to miss. One such area in the game is the armory, within the police station.
Naturally, you can find some decent loot here, but the best thing the armory has to offer is the Shock Machine Gun—one of the best high fire-rate early game weapons. As such, this guide explains how to enter the armory in The Outer Worlds 2 and how to keep this powerful weapon for yourself.

How to reach the armory in The Outer Worlds 2

When you enter the police station, look for Warden Sterling in the prison cell. He’s a handsome, awfully patriotic man with a mustache who is standing behind the cell for some reason. Talk to him, and he will ask to speak to you privately near the prison window.
Exit the police station and go around to reach the window and converse with Warden Sterling. He will tell you about the armory and that there’s a way to enter it from the top side. Sadly, he won’t provide any more instructions, though you don’t need to look far for a path.

On the right side of the window, you will notice several platforms leading to the top of the building. Scale it, and eventually you will come across an opening on the floor. Aside from the Shock Machine Gun, there’s not much unique loot to find here. Don’t forget to pick up the Defensive Plates from one of the tables, though, as it will unlock its crafting recipe.
You have three options here after you open the armory’s door from the inside. You can simply walk by Troopers Murphy and Kemp and keep all the loot for yourself. Or, you can talk to one of them to return everything you obtained from the armory, including the Shock Machine Gun. This will increase your reputation with Auntie’s Choice. Additionally, if you have spent two points in the Speech skill, you can cough up x350 Bit Cartridges out of them.
How good is the Shock Machine Gun in The Outer Worlds 2?

It is useful in certain scenarios and is also one of the most satisfying early-game weapons. It boasts a magazine size of 100, making it a great choice for clearing hordes of small enemies without hassle. However, you probably wouldn’t want to use it after obtaining the Chainspark Cannon from the Vox Relay boss, as it comes equipped with better mods.
You won’t find the Shock Machine Gun very useful against Procterate’s bots and mech enemies, as most are resistant to electric damage. As such, it can’t serve as your primary weapon while infiltrating most enemy encampments in Eden.
