Pokimane controversy explained: Why was Pokimane dropped by a brand?

The popular streamer surprised fans with the news.

Popular content creator Pokimane has been found at the center of controversy before, but in a new video, the 28-year-old gave some information about a recent situation where she was dropped by a brand.

The streaming superstar touched on the situation briefly in a fun video with Lily Pichu called Spill or Fill Your Guts, which requires the participants to choose between answering an uncomfortable question or eating a variety of food, such as durian, dried bugs, preserved duck eggs, and even an entire zebra tarantula. It was, however, a serious topic for the megastar, who broke down some of her perspective.

There weren’t any in-depth details revealed, such as the exact brand that she previously worked for, but the general story eventually shaped itself as she continued to explain all the details around the controversy with an unnamed brand.

Why was Pokimane dropped by a brand as representative?

According to Pokimane, she was dropped by the brand when she fell into a controversy, although she didn’t mention the specific moment that caused her to be dropped. She also cannot disclose which brand dropped her, since the brand is under a “larger conglomerate” that makes it hard to avoid working with them. She does, however, urge other streamers to avoid working with the company.

Pokimane maintained she would never associate with the brand again due to difficulties while working with them. She said they would “have the smallest, nit-pickiest thing and reason to reject the material” when she was creating content for their products, such as the color of her outfit or slight color changes on the packaging.

One situation that could have pushed the brand’s decision was when Pokimane was widely criticized for roasting “broke” fans who were complaining about the price of her new cookie brand last year. Many fans were taken aback by her words, and people even began accusing her and the company of rebranding another cookie brand and jacking up the prices.

Shortly after, Pokimane apologized for the joke, saying it was insensitive and she would keep analyzing price points “to keep Myna as affordable as possible.” Besides this, however, the popular broadcaster has been relatively out of the spotlight when it comes to controversial situations.
