It’s taken 5 years but this huge feature is finally coming to Pokémon Go

Go big or go home.

It’s been a long five-year wait for Pokémon Go players but a massive feature is finally being added, bringing a whole new element to the game.

Pokémon Go is usually behind platform releases like Scarlet and Violet, but sometimes, the wait for new mechanics, Pokémon, and more is excruciating. Thankfully for many trainers, a five-year wait is coming to an end with the introduction of Dynamax.

The Galar region is taking center stage in the Max Out Pokémon Go season, beginning Sept. 3 at 10am local time, with the introduction of the starter trio—Scorbunny, Grookey, and Sobble—as well as Dreepy.

It’s not just new Pokémon that are making headlines, however. As of Sept. 10, a new event will begin in Pokémon Go that introduces the Dynamax mechanic to the game—requiring players to locate Power Spots and tackle new Max Battles.

The introduction of Dynamax is described in the supporting announcement as “one of the biggest updates to Pokémon Go yet,” with several Pokémon teased as having Dynamax versions for the new event. These include the Kanto trio of Venusaur, Blastoise, and Charizard, along with Skwovet and Wooloo. Further Dynamax Pokémon are likely to be added in the future, though it could be a drip-feed of content.

This is by no means the end of the Galar region and Dynamax, however, as the vast majority of the regional Pokémon found in Galar have not been integrated into Pokémon Go yet. On top of this, the arrival of Dynamax will likely be followed by the introduction of Gigantamax to the game.

Further details on the new season in Pokémon Go will be revealed as we get closer to the start date—and there’s plenty of time to enjoy the new content as the season will last until Dec. 3.
