Who’ll follow Overwatch’s newest tank hero Orisa? We don’t know, but Blizzard does.
And the next hero is “far along in development,” too. “I absolutely know who the next hero is going to be,” Kaplan told IBTimes UK. “The next hero is very far along in development, so we’re at the point where we’re doing art for that hero, we’re doing a lot of aggressive play testing.”
The Doomfist dream is still alive.
IBTimes UK asked specifically if it was safe to assume that a defense character was on its way, as it’s the only class that hasn’t seen a new hero added yet. Kaplan responded, “No, it’s not safe to assume that.”
It’s probably not safe to assume anything, really, but it seems unlikely we’d get another tank hero immediately after Blizzard added Orisa.
Heroes have been unveiled in roughly three to four month increments. Healing sniper Ana was revealed first in July, followed by Mexican hacker Sombra in November. Overwatch’s 24th hero Orisa went live in March. If Blizzard is following that pattern, it’s likely the 25th hero will be available in June or July.
Blizzard has yet to tie up the story of the Doomfist gauntlet, which was stolen from the Numbani payload in late February. Orisa was created to protect Numbani after that event, but the airport attacker is still at large. Because of the item stolen, many believe it’s Doomfist himself.
It’s unlikely that this week’s King’s Row Uprising tease has anything to do with a new character. But if it did, we’re hoping Doomfist is involved.
