While technically a free-to-play game, Marvel Rivals is full of flashy cosmetics that you can own and flaunt to your teammates. Instead of directly using real money to buy stuff, however, you purchase virtual currencies and use them to get skins and other items. Unstable Molecules is now one of these currency types, added to the game with the April 17 patch.

Here’s everything you need to know about Unstable Molecules and how to get them in Marvel Rivals.

Unstable Molecules has a distinct icon: It resembles a clinical test tube filled with molecules. At the time of writing, it’s an exclusive currency for the skin customization feature in Marvel Rivals. If you want to recolor an eligible costume with a combo, you’ll need 600 of these molecules for it. You can’t use it to purchase any other item in the game.

As of Marvel Rivals’ season two, there’s only one way to get Unstable Molecules: Exchange Lattice in a 1:1 ratio. For example, if you exchange 1,000 Lattice, you can get 1,000 Unstable Molecules for it.

Like Units and Chrono Tokens, you can’t purchase or exchange Unstable Molecules from the Store. To get it, follow these steps

  1. Go to the Heroes tab from the lobby.
  2. At the moment, the skin customization feature is only available for select heroes. So, you need to select any of these four eligible heroes: Psylocke, Winter Soldier, Magik, or Luna Snow.
  3. Now, select the Costumes tab.
  4. Pick one skin depending on the hero you chose: Vengeance, Blood Soldier, Punkchild, or Mirae 2099.
  5. Finally, select the Customize button.
  6. You can now see the number of Unstable Molecules you have in the top left of the screen. Select the test tube icon to bring up the exchange screen.
  7. Select the plus icon to add the number of Unstable Molecules you want. Make sure you have the required Lattice for it, or you can select the Lattice button to purchase it from the same screen.
  8. Once you’re ready to exchange, click on the Lattice button.

That’s it. You’ll now have the amount of Unstable Molecules you wanted in your bank. Use it to purchase the color combo you want for your hero costume in Marvel Rivals. NetEase will add more ways to acquire this currency in future updates, but until then, it’s the Lattice way.
