PS5 Pro – New PlayStation 5 price and how to pre-order

It'll cost you a pretty penny.

It’s hard to believe it, but we’re already halfway through the PlayStation 5 generation. And as such, Sony has unveiled a new upgraded console: the PlayStation 5 Pro.

The PS5 Pro sports an upgraded GPU, advanced ray tracing, and AI-driven upscaling compared to the base PS5 model, offering “higher fidelity graphics and smoother frame rates at 60 FPS.” It also has a much heftier price tag than the base PS5, so the upgrade will only be worth it if you’re looking to run games as beautifully as possible.

On top of enhancing the graphical quality of PS5 games like Horizon Forbidden West, Marvel’s Spider-Man 2, and Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, PS5 Pro offers PS5 Pro Game Boost, offering enhancements to over 8,500 backward compatible PS4 games. It will also support VRR and 8K gaming, along with Wi-Fi 7.

Here’s all the info about the PS5 Pro’s price and how to order one for yourself.

The PS5 Pro is available on Nov. 7 and is priced at $699, £699.99 GBP, €799.99 EUR, and ¥119,980 JPY.

The console “will include a 2TB SSD, a DualSense wireless controller and a copy of Astro’s Playroom pre-installed in every PS5 Pro purchase,” according to Sony. “PS5 Pro is available as a disc-less console, with the option to purchase the currently available Disc Drive for PS5 separately.”

Keep that last fact in mind if you still prefer to play games on discs. The PS5 Pro does not come with a disc drive or a stand, so both will need to be purchased separately to complete the console’s experience.

How to pre-order the PS5 Pro

Pre-orders for the PS5 Pro are set to begin on Sept. 26, 2024. The upgraded console will be “available at participating retailers and directly from PlayStation Direct.” Retailers such as Amazon, Best Buy, Target, Wal-Mart, and many others are expected to carry the PS5 Pro, as is normally the case with new gaming hardware.

Keep an eye out on your favorite retailer websites for when the PS5 Pro pages go live, or head to your favorite store and ask an attendant about placing a pre-order for the PS5 Pro.

Alternatively, wait until Black Friday sales later on this year for a price drop on older PS5 models if the PS5 Pro is out of your price range.
