The technical presentation showing off the PS5 Pro broke down these significant differences. However, the presentation also detailed what made the original PS5 such a unique console from Sony. Here’s what you need to know about if you should buy the PS5 Pro or if you should continue buying the standard PS5 console.

Should you buy the PS5 Pro or PS5 console?

It has been confirmed that the PlayStation 5 Pro will be released for $699.99. For anyone who can afford to grab this advanced console at this price, it’s not a bad idea. However, if you’ve been waiting to grab the standard PlayStation 5 until now, you’re better off grabbing the standard PS5 when it receives a price drop, as it will once the PS5 Pro releases on Nov. 7.

Although we do believe it’s better to go with the standard PS5, there are some things to consider when comparing the two consoles. The three big differences between the PS5 and the PS5 Pro: the Pro has a larger GPU, Advanced Ray Tracing, and AI-driven upscaling.

The GPU for the PS5 Pro is 67 percent larger than the standard, with larger RAM increasing rendering by 45 percent. This increases the memory the PS5 Pro uses, presenting visuals at an increased rate with higher quality. All your graphics should look better when using it than the standard PS5 console.

Advanced Ray Tracing is a smaller section for the PS5 Pro that provides double the lighting effects from the visuals of the standard PS5. This, plus the AI-driven Upscaling, means the overall graphics and fidelity should have twice the power of the standard PS5 console, doubling the framerate for some games.

Essentially, if you were running a game on a PS5’s fidelity mode at 30 FPS, the same game on the PS5 Pro can run at 60 FPS, achieving fidelity-like graphics at performance framerate without losing anything. Even if you were to use the Performance mode on a standard PS5, the PS5 Pro can supposedly beat it as it provides a sharper and crisper graphical experience while playing the same game.

Despite the advances provided by the PS5 Pro, we feel it is better to grab the cheaper PS5 console, as it should receive a price drop when the Pro becomes available on the market. The improved graphics and details on the Pro are fantastic, but the PS5 is still an excellent console, and you should be able to enjoy all the games you’ve been playing on it for the next several years.
