After an incredible run at his first Smash tournament in 2016, Aziz “Hax” Al-Yami may be forced out of of the Smash Summit 2 Invitational due to the same injuries that have sidelined him in the past.
In a blog post, Hax told fans that he hadn’t been completely honest about the extent of his injuries. He allowed people to vote for him to enter Smash Summit 2 knowing that there was a chance he wouldn’t be able to attend—he said he felt pain the Monday after Pound 6, but hoped it would subside. At a tournament last weekend, that burning sensation in his wrists came back in full force.
Hax has had a number of surgeries over the years as doctors tried to pinpoint the exact problem—there may be as many as three different issues affecting him.
As for the people that paid to vote for him, Hax says he’ll repay them by offering match critiques.
At this point, it’s looking like Hax is in a kind of retirement all over again. He was hoping that with a lot of rest, he would be able to squeeze out a few tournaments this year.
