Quests in Fortnite are often confusing, especially in the recent Pirate Code challenges where you’re asked to eliminate dueling characters with a melee weapon. Most weapons are long or short-range guns, so picking a melee weapon to complete the challenges might be tricky. Here’s everything you need to know about using Melee weapons in Fortnite.

In Fortnite, melee weapons require you to get close to enemies to damage them. While being near enemies is generally unsafe, sending your opponent back to the lobby with a melee weapon feels very rewarding .

As chapter four, season three is coming to an end, melee weapons like Chains of Hades are being vaulted. This was a melee weapon of choice for many players to grab enemies and pull them close, catching them by surprise. Now, there are only two melee weapons in Fortnite until the next season arrives:

  • Nitro-fist: The epic-tier weapon of the Wasteland this season is the Nitro-fist. It can uppercut an enemy and send them to oblivion. You can use it as a mobility tool to gain altitude, or simply to bash your enemies’ skulls. To get the best rarity, defeat Megalo Don. His Nitro-fists are powerful and arguably the best melee weapon in Fortnite
  • Pickaxe: Your good old trusty pickaxe is also considered a melee weapon in Fortnite, and it helps you collect resources in build mode. It only deals 10 damage per hit, so it’s far from ideal for offensive use, but you always have access to it, making it a good side weapon to finish things off when you run out of ammo.

When the season ends, we could see old Marvel mythic items returning to the island to give players more melee options and diversify the weapon pool.
