Fortnite’s open world sandbox mode called Playground has returned this morning after a couple of weeks on hiatus.
Epic Games calls Playground “a low-pressure environment where friends can let their creativity run wild.” It is an hour-long match where up to four friends can drop in basically do whatever they want.
Respawn is enabled, so players can fight it out in scrimmages or grudge matches, or just troll their friends while exploring the map. Weapons, materials, and items all spawn at higher rates than normal.
Due to the abundance of materials and the time to build whatever they like, players usually have fun building massive structures, or adventures like Mario Kart race tracks. Now that the game has actual golf carts in it, the creations should be even more fun to watch.
The 5.1 update also made some changes to the mode, like adding the ability for players to switch teams in-game to either join up creatively or practice fighting. A ton of loot was added as well, including 100 supply drops, 100 Loot Llamas, an increased rocket ammo capacity, and 10-times the ammo from ammo cans. The respawn timer has also been lowered from 10 seconds to three seconds, and you will drop in lower when you do respawn to get back into the fun faster.
Epic still describes Playground as a limited time mode, although the game’s official Twitch account revealed earlier in the month that there are plans for it to be a full-time mode at some point.
