Career Mode in EA FC 25 is receiving some big changes to improve the often overlooked game mode, and it turns out there has been some surprising inspiration for the title.
Career Mode in the EA Sports title has felt stagnant in recent years, with most of the attention going to the money-spinning Ultimate Team, but World of Warcraft and similar titles have inspired some significant changes in EA FC 25.
While live-start choices, icons, and playable youth academies grabbed headlines, Player Career Mode has also received some TLC to provide greater customization when starting your career.
Previously, options in Player Career Mode were limited to starting from scratch with a new player, with the lowest rating possible, or taking control of an existing player—though the latter option was regularly overlooked.
This approach reduced the replayability of the mode and made it difficult when starting at a big club, as you’d have to work your way into the first team, but now there will be background choices available to carve your own story.
In an interview with GGRecon on Aug. 8, EA FC 25 principal game designer Alex Constantinescu revealed that “MMORPGs like World of Warcraft” inspired a change—with it now possible to start as an established player with the maximum number of skill points, bypassing the grind entirely.
It’s not just a choice of starting at the very beginning or with everything unlocked, as the new “Origin Stories” offer new narrative approaches. These include returning from a big injury, being the child of a legendary player, and the standard approach of starting from square one and working your way up.
Giving players more options on how they want to play is a huge boost for EA FC 25, and coupled with the fact that you can earn progress toward season XP in whatever game mode you choose, it provides a much-needed boost to modes outside of Ultimate Team.
