It’s no secret that Fortnite: Battle Royale has taken the world by storm. We’ve already seen dance moves from the game make appearances in real-life sporting events—but now, a professional soccer club has used Fortnite to announce the signing of a player.
French club Nantes introduced Lucas Evangelista to its fanbase by posting a Fortnite video on Twitter yesterday. The tweet shows a three-man team (with in-game names reportedly inspired by Nantes’ coach and players) dropping out of the Battle Bus into the area often referred to as YMCA.
After grabbing some loot, the squad converges on the soccer field in-game. As they run toward one of the field’s exits, the door swings open, and the video cuts to Evangelista saluting in real life.
Most soccer fans should be no strangers to the phenomenon of Fortnite. On July 15, Antoine Griezmann of France used a Fortnite celebration after scoring a goal in the 38th minute of the 2018 FIFA World Cup final match. The Frenchman gave his team the lead over Croatia with a successful penalty kick and proceeded to mimic Fortnite’s “Take The L” emote.

But that wasn’t the first time a soccer player—or even Griezmann—has celebrated a goal with one of Fortnite’s popular dances. Other athletes, such as Tottenham Hotspur’s Dele Alli and Boston Red Sox shortstop Xander Bogaerts, have also used emotes inspired by the battle royale game to celebrate real-life accomplishments in sporting events.
Nantes has taken things to a whole new level, though—and many sports fans will be curious to see if their favorite team follows suit the next time they introduce a new player on social media.
