Splitgate is back with its “Halo with portals” gameplay, offering a multitude of game modes to try. Splitgate 2 features four core gameplay components, so regardless of what you’re looking for in an FPS, you’ll likely find it here.
Here are all of the game modes in Splitgate 2 as of launch.

Battle royale

One of the latest additions to Splitgate 2 is a battle royale mode. This one comes with its own twist—the map is split into multiple smaller maps connected by portals. As the match progresses, some worlds will close, funneling players towards the final standoff.
The gameplay loop is what you’d expect from a battle royale. Drop master leads the team as the shuttle travels through all maps. Then players scavenge for gear (including weapons, perks, gadgets, and more) and try to wipe out enemy teams.
When you get killed, though, you can respawn on a random teammate as long as they’re out of combat, making the fights more about wiping the entire team rather than picking off individual players.
Arena

Arena is a classic four-vs-four Splitgate 2 experience. You can jump straight into Quick Play, which consists of four traditional modes, or you can explore several standalone modes. Some of these modes are on a weekly rotation, so expect new ones to take their place.
Here are all the Arena game modes in Splitgate 2:
- Domination: Fight over three zones to earn points.
- Hotzone: Fight over one moving zone to earn points.
- Firecracker: Plant or defuse the Firecracker to win rounds. Unlike other games with plant/defuse scenarios, Firecracker has respawns.
- Splitball: Capture and deliver Splitballs to your base.
- Gun Game: Get kills to advance your gun in a race to the final weapon.
- Takedown: Wipe out the enemy team. Respawns get longer with each death.
- Team Deathmatch: The first team to get 50 kills wins.
- Fiesta Simulation: Fight the enemy team with random weapons.
Onslaught

Onslaught is similar to Arena but on a larger scale. Instead of two teams of four players, there are three teams of eight players, duking it out on larger maps. Onslaught also comes with a few different modes to keep the gameplay fresh.

- Onslaught Domination
- Onslaught Hotzone
- Onslaught TDM
The Lab

The final piece in this arcade FPS puzzle is The Lab. The Lab is a map creator where you can create your own experiences or try out maps designed by other players. There are already a bunch of maps, including Nuketown from Call of Duty, Dust 2 from Counter-Strike, and more.
Is Splitgate 2 a battle royale?

While Splitgate 2 had a lot of focus on its battle royale mode during launch, it’s only a fraction of what the game has to offer. The title’s battle royale is unique and more arcade-ish, but the genre has already exhausted many of us, so it makes sense if you’re not particularly excited about it.
If you don’t feel like dropping and looting, the classic Arena experience is the bread and butter of Splitgate. It delivers casual and fast-paced fun with multiple ways for you to improve and make spectacular plays. The game promises robust post-launch support, so regardless of your favorite mode, there will be things for you to explore.
