How to fish in RimWorld Odyssey

The Odyssey DLC of RimWorld introduced Fishing. Here’s everything you need to know about unlocking this mechanic and how to fish in the expansion.

Before getting started with Fishing, you need to follow a few steps and meet some criteria. Here’s everything you need to know.

How to unlock Fishing in RimWorld Odyssey

You can unlock Fishing in RimWorld by building a Simple Research Bench and spending 600 research Points. However, you also do need to keep these points in mind before unlocking the mechanic:

• Make sure your colony is located near a water body, such as a river or lake (otherwise it won’t work)
• You have started the game afresh with a new save

To find the Fishing project, head over to the Research tab (third one from the right). You can find the Fishing option on the second column, under the Main section (fifth from the top).

How to start Fishing

Once you’ve unlocked Fishing, its zones will be visible under the Architect tab. Look to the bottom of your screen, and the Architect tab will be the first one from the left.

Then, click on the Zone option to find the Fishing zone button (a small fish inside a blue layout) between the Growing and Shrink zones.

Click on the Fishing zone button, and it will take you to a nearby river or lake. Drag your mouse and select the area you want to set as the Fishing ground, and pawns can then start coming here and start catching fish.

How to catch more fish in RimWorld Odyssey

The primary skill that comes into play while catching fish in RimWorld Odyssey is Hunting. The better stats they have, the more fish you can catch. Look out for colonists with a high Shooting skill; they are usually good at Hunting.

Since Penguins and Otters have made their way with the new DLC, you may also domesticate and use them to catch fish, as the task doesn’t necessarily need to be restricted to pawns.

Benefits of Fishing in RimWorld Odyssey

Fishing comes with a couple of benefits:

• It can be a great source of food early in the game when you’re equipped with few resources
• It comes in handy in terrains where growing crops is a challenge
