The wait for Magic: The Gathering’s new expansion, War of the Spark, to drop on MTG Arena is over—for some players, at least.
Magic: The Gathering War of the Spark expansion is unlike any before it. Containing a total of 36 planeswalkers (one in each booster pack for MTG Arena drafts and card form), God-Eternals reborn as zombies, armies, and new mechanics, no format will ever be the same.
The official maintenance and upload for War of the Spark on MTG Arena is scheduled for 10pm CT, and the patch notes will become available shortly after. Wizards of the Coast is ahead of schedule, apparently, as many are able to update MTG Arena now.
Upon logging back in, the War of the Spark trailer plays (which is worth watching every time) and players can begin opening booster packs or playing the War of the Spark Sealed draft tournament.
Playing a Sealed War of the Spark draft gives players six booster packs (each containing a planeswalker) to build a minimum of a 40-card deck. The cost is 2,500 gems, which can only be earned by doing drafts in-game or by purchasing them in the store. The advantage of playing a Sealed draft is that players get to keep all the cards from the six booster packs and potentially earn enough gems to play again.
A free Boros pre-constructed 60 card deck is also available for Twitch Prime users. Traditional draft for War of the Spark won’t commence until the end of the pre-release on April 28, but Traditional draft for Ravnica Allegiance is available to play.
Pre-release for MTG War of the Spark will be from April 26 to 28, in conjunction with the second Mythic Championship being held in London.
