In line with Riot’s policy of bringing the old and battered champs of yore up to speed, at least visually, Teemo has finally had his long-awaited visual update confirmed. The redesign, while not too substantial, is slated to be released alongside League of Legends Patch 14.20.
Riot confirmed this in a Sept. 23 dev diary and gave League fans a deep dive into the creative process behind the art and sustainability update (ASU). The little critter’s old design was pretty basic and didn’t do much to highlight Teemo’s character, despite all the effort put in by the voice actor. The updated variant is precisely aiming to correct this by giving Teemo a more lively, cheerful look that actually has animated movement and a proper recall that shows him moving about rather than just, well, standing there menacingly.
On the other hand, Riot had to put in quite the effort to bring the many Teemo skins up to current-day standards. While many of his skins could keep their original looks as they were pretty elaborate as is, others were simply recolors of his original skin—and it’s those in particular that Riot opted to rework completely to give them a new flair (at the cost of increased skin prices). A notable example that Riot named is Happy Elf Teemo, who initially looked like nothing more than a “hair-dyed Teemo,” as Riot puts it, but will sport a fine new look once the ASU is finally out.
Due to the increased effort to improve the Happy Elf, Recon, and Badger skins, they will cost 750 RP instead of 520 after the update but will retain their old price all the way until release, so make sure to grab them while you can.
Teemo’s visual update aims to launch as part of League Patch 14.20 on Oct. 9 but will become available on the PBE starting on Sept. 24.
