Riot returns to LoL’s roots with fresh Summoner’s Cup design for Worlds 2025

Heavy was the crown.

Riot Games is returning to its roots with a fresh update for the beloved Summoner’s Cup—and the trophy is making a comeback with a lighter and iconic design for fans.

Unlike last year’s modernistic and sharp ridges on the League of Legends World Championship trophy, the developer is bringing back the nostalgic look that fans have cherished for years with the original silhouette. In addition to the appearance, the weight was reduced by half compared to the previous edition.

The developer said that the reduction in weight makes it “safer and easier to lift on the world stage,” showing that they’ve learnt from the feedback from last year’s heavier trophy, which led to Zeus accidentally hurting himself during the ceremony. The iconic moment made its way into T1’s Worlds 2024 Zeus skin as a recall animation.

This year’s Summoner’s Cup will feature a new seven-inch base, engraved with the names of all 14 past Worlds champions. The trophy is designed and fabricated by Volpin Props, bringing its craftsmanship to the League’s most iconic prize. Mercedes-Benz, Riot’s official automotive partner, will deliver the trophy to the stadium.

League esports marks its 15th anniversary with the Worlds 2025 event, and the international event will be looking to break last year’s viewership record. The event’s grand finals feature big names such as pop superstar G.E.M. and iconic EDM maestro Anyma, among other artists, setting the stage for the event before the teams clash to earn the ultimate glory.

The road to Worlds 2025 begins Oct. 14 in Beijing, runs through Shanghai, and ends with the ultimate showdown in Chengdu for the finals.
