Purple Skull reward in Helldivers 2 explained

Received a purple skull in Helldivers 2? Here's what it means.

The Ministry of Prosperity hands out rewards on a regular basis, but this is the first time it’s sent out a purple (or pink) skull in Helldivers 2. If you’ve received it too and are scratching your head over what it does, you’ve come to the right place for an answer.

The major “Into the Unjust” update on Sept. 2 introduced a wealth of new content to Helldivers 2, including new Warbonds, world map features, enemies, and more for players to dive in. Amid the chaos of new threats and possibilities, the Ministry of Prosperity has issued suspicious-looking purple skulls to certain eligible divers—but left the idea behind it mysterious.

Here’s what the purple skull means in Helldivers 2.

The purple (or pink) skull is a Warbond Token, which you can use to purchase any Premium Warbond in Helldivers 2. Legendary Warbonds can’t be acquired with this token. You’ve likely been expecting this reward to show up if you bought the game’s Super Citizen Edition recently.

First released as a DLC in 2024 for PlayStation and PC, the Super Citizen Edition initially included the Steeled Veterans Warbond. But its contents were recently updated with the Xbox release, mainly to prevent players from accidentally purchasing the Steeled Veterans Warbond twice.

Who’s eligible for the purple skull reward in Helldivers 2?

If you’re among the many who haven’t received the new Warbond Token despite purchasing the Super Citizen Edition in Helldivers 2 and are wondering why, Arrowhead has made the rules of eligibility pretty clear. For starters, you should receive the token if you bought the Super Citizen edition after the Aug. 26 update without any issues.

If you bought the DLC before the update, however, you can still receive the token, provided the following are true:

  • Bought Steeled Veterans with super credits before buying Super Citizen Upgrade.
  • Did not claim 1000 Super Credits from Player Support as reimbursement for purchasing Steeled Veterans twice.
  • Bought Super Citizen Upgrade before the tokens were added to the game on Aug. 26, 2025.

How to use the purple skull reward in Helldivers 2

To use the purple skull Warbond Token in Helldivers 2, all you need to do is open the Acquisitions page while on the ship and select a Premium Warbond you want. Select the “Claim Warbond” button and confirm your action.

If you’ve somehow missed the Ministry’s message about receiving the purple skull, this is also how you can know whether you already own the token: You’ll see “Claim Warbond” instead of a buy button.
