Sony is selling refurbished PS5s for half the price of the Pro to help ease your sticker shock

As good as new.

Sony PlayStation revealed the PS5 Pro yesterday, promising an upgraded gaming experience for new and current players. What should have been a game-changing news day quickly turned sour when an outrageously high price of $700 was announced.

It wasn’t long before people online started fiercely mocking Sony for asking gamers to pay so much for a mid-generation upgrade, in addition to needing to buy other accessories separately. Not only that, but the standard PS5 is still a costly machine at $500. But all is not completely lost for the more budget-conscious gamer, as Sony is providing a small alternative for those still looking to adopt their own PS5. PlayStation Direct will be selling refurbished PS5s, both regular and digital editions, at a much lower cost.

According to the website, the standard version will sell for $400 while the digital version will sell for $50 cheaper. Refurbished controllers will also go on sale for $60 dollars, and alternate colors for a few dollars more, also cheaper than the standard $75 price tag for a DualSense. The website also promises that every refurbished PS5 will be properly tested and cleaned before purchase, with all replacement parts added as needed and a guaranteed warranty provided for all products.

The refurbished PS5s and controllers haven’t gone on sale yet, but it can be assumed they will be available for purchase either around or before the PS5 Pro comes out in late November, or even before it’s available to pre-order in September. So it looks like those looking to purchase a PS5 will have plenty of options this holiday season, whether it be a standard, Pro, or refurbished version. Having this many options is definitely a much better alternative to being forced to buy the most expensive edition.
