Dr. Doom strikes down Redline Rig in Fortnite to mark the end of Fallout collab with a bang

Dr Doom strikes at the right moment.

A massive explosion shook the Fortnite island today, Aug. 10, leaving Redline Rig in shambles and revealing the Pandora’s Box. It’s all because Dr. Doom sabotaged Megalo Don’s plans of fueling his Leviathan ship, putting an end to the Fallout collaboration and paving the way for the second Marvel collaboration season.

At the start of Fortnite’s Chapter Five, season three, Megalo Don’s Leviathan crashed to the south of the island, bringing the Wasteland theme into the season. The Nitro-addicted antagonist’s intentions were clear: fuel up the ship with the help of Redline Rig and tear through the island to take the sail back to the waves. Throughout the season, pipelines were being constructed from the Redline Rig point of interest to Brutal Beachhead to fuel the ship leading to the live season event.

However, there was a small problem with this perfect plan—the Wanderer. The mysterious shrouded figure roamed near points of interest in silence, which made the community speculate about its true intentions. A few players pointed out that it could be Doctor Doom since Epic Games had been putting Rift Beacons all over the island as an easter egg to tease the upcoming Marvel-themed season. The live event confirmed that theory.

Just as the fueling began in the live event, the event timer flickered to reveal the Wanderer’s green-colored logo, confirming Doctor Doom’s arrival in the next season. Doctor Doom stopped the fueling process and caused a chain explosion leading back to Redline Rig. As the dust settled, Pandora’s Box came swimming in lava, making players believe it’ll play a larger role in shaping the game’s lore rather than just staying as a prop in the Greek-themed season.

This wouldn’t be the first time Doctor Doom appeared on the Fortnite island. He was a hostile boss back in Chapter Two, season four: Nexus War where the Avengers had to fight Galactus to save the island. As Marvel recently introduced Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom in the MCU, it’ll be interesting if a variant of Doctor Doom makes his way to the island with new Marvel heroes and mythic powers.

The Fortnite Chapter Five, season three will end on Aug. 16.
