Smash Bros. Ultimate exhibition matches set for EVO 2018

Nintendo announced plans to bring the demo version of Smash Bros. Ultimate to Evo early last week, giving fans across the world a chance to play the latest installment before its release this December for the Nintendo Switch.

But it’s not just regular players who will be getting their hands on the game. Nintendo will be hosting a Smash Bros. Ultimate exhibition tournament on the EVO main stage as part of the event.

The announcement promises “notable gaming personalities”—but none of the names involved have been revealed so far.

Super Smash Bros. Ultimate is widely expected to be the next big Smash Bros. esport title and Nintendo is using this event to show off its competitive capabilities. The game will almost certainly replace the Wii U version in future fighting game events.Super Smash Bros. Melee is likely to continue to be a part of future esports events due to its popularity over the past decade.

In recent years developers have used EVO to showcase big fighting game announcements over the past few years. Capcom and Bandai have notably used the platform to show off the latest DLC characters in some of itheir flagship fighting games.

This years event is likely to feature the reveal of the next DLC fighters for Street Fighter V and Dragon Ball FighterZ, with speculation rife that Nintendo will also make further announcements for Ultimate.
