With Du “NuckleDu” Dang bowing out of Capcom Cup 2017, the company has announced that 2016 runner-up Ricki Ortiz will take his spot.
Evil Geniuses Street Fighter player Ortiz took on NuckleDu at last year’s final, but ultimately fell to the grand champion. Ortiz currently stands at number 84 on the Street Fighter 5 global leaderboard after being away from the game for a few months.

“NuckleDu has chosen not to attend Capcom Cup 2017,” Capcom Fighters wrote on Twitter. “According to CPT rules, the auto-qualification he earned for winning Capcom Cup 2016 is giving [sic] to the runner-up. Ricki Ortiz has accepted the vacated spot in Capcom Cup 2017.”
Ortiz tweeted that she hopes to make everyone proud at the event, despite her few months away, which she spent “bettering [herself] and [her] personal life.”
Capcom Cup 2017 is scheduled for Dec. 8 to 10 in Anaheim, California.
