SGDQ is one of two large speedrunning events that happen throughout the year, hosted by the GamesDoneQuick team. The Twitch stream has been live for just over 24 hours and the event has already raised over $150,000 dollars for charity.

The second day began with speedruns of classic PS1 titles such as Crash Bandicoot, Spyro, and Ape Escape, and is slowly moving towards the main highlight— the Sonic block.

The Sonic block unofficially starts with Freedom Planet, a retro-inspired indie game based on the Sonic franchise. Speedruns of the game are divided into three categories based on the three characters that players can choose from; Lilac, Carol, and Milla. Fladervy, the speedrunner for the game at SGDQ currently holds the world record for the Lilac category. The Freedom Planet speedruns have just started.

After Freedom Planet, three Sonic titles are set to light up the stage. Sonic CD, Sonic Generations, and Sonic Colours make up the Sonic block, before SGDQ dives into the two Mirror’s Edge speedruns straight afterward.

The three speedrunners taking part in these speedruns include two world record holders and one former world record holder that is looking to reclaim his crown. With all this top talent on show from the Sonic community, this could quite possibly be the best Sonic block in GDQ history. Let’s hope the speedrunners can finish things up quickly.
