A legendary map has returned.

The latest CS2 patch has brought some exciting changes, including the return of the iconic Overpass map.

Overpass is officially back in the active duty map pool, spicing up both Premier Season 3 and the competitive scene. On top of the map pool shakeup, this update also includes some gameplay changes aimed at rebalancing the meta.

Here’s a breakdown of the new CS2 update released on July 15.

With the launch of Premier Season 3, competitive mode is back online after a short break at the end of Season 2. Alongside the restart, Valve has swapped out Anubis for Overpass in the active duty map pool. This marks Overpass’s return after it was replaced by Dust 2 back in April 2024.

The reintroduction of Overpass is bound to shake things up in both ranked matchmaking and the pro scene, especially as teams prepare for the second half of the 2025 esports calendar and set their sights on qualifying for the StarLadder Budapest Major.

A few gameplay changes have also landed with this patch. The Incendiary Grenade has been buffed: it now spreads fire more quickly, making it even more effective for map control and site denial.

Meanwhile, the MP9 has been nerfed. The submachine gun’s recoil has been increased and jumping accuracy lowered, making it a less reliable choice in eco rounds. These tweaks are likely aimed at reducing its dominance as a go-to budget weapon for CTs.

New CT cash bonus

Another notable change is the cash bonus for Counter-Terrorists in competitive modes. CTs will now receive a $50 team reward for every Terrorist player eliminated during a round. It might be a small tweak, but it could impact economy management in tightly contested matches.

Here are the full CS2 patch notes on July 15:

Premier Season Three

  • Premier Season Three is now open for business
  • Added Overpass to the Active Duty Map Pool
  • Removed Anubis from the Active Duty Map Pool

Gameplay

  • Incendiary Grenade – Incendiary grenade fire spreads more rapidly
  • MP9 – increased recoil magnitude and substantially reduced jumping accuracy
  • In Competitive modes, Counter-Terrorists now receive a $50 team award for each Terrorist eliminated in a round
