Here are what we think the 10 best Pictos in the game.
How Pictos work in Clair Obscur

Pictos are equippable items that provide up to two stat bonuses and a passive ability to your character. Characters have three Pictos slots, and using a Pictos in four different battles unlocks its passive ability.
There are around 180 Pictos in the game, so here are the ones we consider the best to equip for an easier time in battle.
10 best Pictos in Clair Obscur
Pictos | Lumina | Stat Bonus | Strategy | Where to find |
---|---|---|---|---|
Dodger | Gain one AP on Perfect Dodge. Once per turn | 12 speed, 3% crit rate | Timing the dodge perfectly will always grant you an additional AP with every turn with this tactic. Ultilize this to keep ammunition in your AP gauge. Equip to Gustave to better time his Overcharge skill for maximum charge. | Obtained after defeating your first enemy. |
Shortcut | Immediately play when falling below 30% health. Once per battle | 182 speed, 18% crit rate | This will be a saving grace upon obtaining, ensuring that before one of your characters gets knocked out, you have the chance to save them. Alternatively, you can stack this effect on other Pictos, such as Critical Moment, which boosts your Crit Rate once your health falls below 30%. | Obtained after defeating the Aberration in Renoir’s Drafts in Act 3. |
Critical Weakness | 25% increased critical chance on weakness | 670 speed, 14% crit rate | You’ll be wanting to expose enemy weaknesses in every battle encounter. Capitalizing on this will provide further benefits if you equip a Pictos revolving around this element. It also offers one of the highest percentage boosts around critical chance on weakness. | Post-game pictos, obtained once you defeat Stage 6’s boss, Gargant, located in the Endless Tower |
Versatile | After a free aim hit, base attack damage is increased by 50% for 1 turn | 21 speed, 4% crit rate | Versatile is great for maximizing almost every single turn with a character. Having at least 1 AP allows you to use your long-range weapon, then follow it up with a simple attack hit with a 50% increase in damage dealt. It’s a surefire way to deal a lot of damage. | Located in Flying Waters, Lumieran Streets. Simply pick it up on the rooftop above the rest point. |
Second Chance | Revive with 100% Health. Once per battle | 1,107 Health, 8% crit rate | Providing you a second wind during tougher enemy encounters, this Pictos not only boosts your crit rate power but grants you another chance to win. Considering healing in the game is capped at how many tints you can carry and is dependent on your AP charge, being able to technically have two lives for one character can be the winning strategy for some encounters. | Defeat Renoir in Inside the Monolith in Act 2. |
Painted Power | Damage can exceed 9,999 | 1,844 health | Your damage is no longer capped and can get stacked as far as exceeding 9,999 damage, something you’ll want to be able to do to complete certain objectives and achievements. | Defeat the Paintress in Monolith Peak in Act 2. |
Energising Attack I | Plus 1 AP on base attack | 62 Speed, 5% Crit Rate | Battles in Clair Obscur is almost always all about managing your AP gauge. Being able to always get one with each basic attack getting landed will allow more ease in managing these. | Defeat the Glaise in Yellow Harvest in Act 1. Look out for Energising Attack II that’s sold by the merchant Klaudiso, located in Sirene later in the game. |
Augmented Counter I | 25% increased Counterattack damage | 90 Health, 4% Crit Rate | The earliest Augmented Counter you’ll find is a Pictos you’ll want equipped. It not only boosts your health pool, but the increase on counterattacking is extremely helpful against enemies with bigger health pools (this can be physically bigger enemies or boss fights). | Found on the world map, dropped by the Bourgeon in the Stone Wave Cliffs side. |
Beneficial Contamination | Plus 2 AP on applying a Status Effect. Once per turn. | 274 defense, 135 speed | Characters like Lune will always be delivering attacks with status effects. If you’re consistently using her, you’ll want to equip a complimentary Pictos. Beneficial Contamination works wonders here, since her best attacks require multiple AP charges for medium to high attack points. | Merchant Persik in Fallen Leaves stocks this at 48,200 Chroma. |
Dead Energy I | Plus 3 AP on killing an enemy | 4 Speed, 9% Crit Rate | Easily one of the very best early game Pictos, simply dealing damage to an enemy grants you additional AP charges. Using characters like Lune who requires high AP will see great results by having her deal final blows. | Located on world map, around the beach on Dark Shores. |
